API E.M. ERYTHROMYCIN Freshwater Fish Powder Medication provides a broad spectrum control of bacterial fish infections, such as body slime, mouth fungus, Furunculosis (open lesions and swelling), bacterial gill disease and hemorrhagic septicemia (blood spots without sign of skin damage). This medication will not color the aquarium water. For use in fresh and saltwater aquariums. Dose according to directions on product label and use accordingly. Instructions of Use

For best results, remove activated carbon or filter cartridge from filter and continue aeration. For each 20 gallons (75 L) of water add 1 scoop (1 tsp.). For larger systems, for each 240 gallons (908 L) of water add 12 scoops (4 Tbsp.), or for each 960 gallons (3,634 L) of water, add one cup. Repeat dose after 24 hours. Wait another 24 hours, then change 25% of the aquarium water. Repeat this treatment for a second time, for a total of 4 doses. Four doses required for full course of treatment. Then make a final 25% water change and add fresh activated carbon or replace filter cartridge. This treatment may be repeated, if necessary.

Does API E.M. ERYTHROMYCIN™ fish remedy help treat popeye?

If you catch popeye in its early stages, you can use E.M. ERYTHROMYCIN fish remedy for effective treatment. Some signs to look for include protruding or cloudy eyes, either in one eye or both. If you notice any of these symptoms, dose immediately.

Is API E.M. ERYTHROMYCIN™ fish remedy safe to use as a preventative if one fish is sick in a tank with other seemingly healthy fish?

Should I keep the carbon cartridge out of the filter until treatment with API E.M. ERYTHROMYCIN™ fish remedy is finished, or should I only take it out for a few minutes before/after treating the water?

It’s recommended that you leave the carbon or carbon-containing filter cartridge out of the filter for the entire duration of treatment, removing it directly prior to the first dose of treatment. Products that are designed to remove things from your aquarium, such as carbon, will remove the dose of fish remedy from your tank if it is left within the filter or replaced before the end of treatment.

Can API E.M. ERYTHROMYCIN™ fish remedy be used with other API fish remedies?

API E.M. ERYTHROMYCIN fish remedy is safe for use alongside other API products. API fish remedies may be used in conjunction with each other safely, as long as both sets of directions for separate fish remedies may be followed exactly. We would not recommend using more than two fish remedies at a time unless you are certain of the diagnosis of multiple ailments, so that you can tell which fish remedies are working or not working while troubleshooting a stubborn disease issue.
