Strategically Decorating your Tank
Decorating your tank is one of great excitement with so many choices.
It is always fun to think about decorating your tank for your new fish. In this article we look at different variables to create a natural habitat for your fish. These considerations will help keep your fish less stressed and be able to feel at home.
What kind of fish do you have or want to have? Researching the fish, you have or want to have, and their natural habitat will give you greater insight to what this fish might prefer in their tank. Keeping similar types of fish together makes it easier to decorate the tank. Try recreating their natural habitat for your fish! Some fish love lots of plants or places to hide.
Look at each category and answer them according to your fish type:
- Type of fish
- Tank Size
- Gravel size- Substrate
- Live plants or fake plants?
- Personality- Schooling, territorial or solitary?
Break each section down and answer or figure out what is the best habitat for them.
Most fish like to have places to hide and plants to swim through.
Some good techniques to creating more space in the aquarium is angling the gravel (small amounts of gravel in the front and gradual slope to the back) will give lift to the items in the back of the tank as well as keeping shorter decorations and plants up front and the larger and taller ones to the back. We would recommend to only put things in there that are natural or is purchased from a pet store.
